Project goal

Documenting the construction through the lense of marketing and monitoring

Tempus was tasked with creating timelapse photography and drone images to document the construction process of the Maersk’s new Cold Store Facility at the Ruakura Superhub. Security and safety were paramount for the camera monitoring with the number of timelapse cameras starting at four the end of 2022 and rising to eight during the peak of construction.

Challenges

COVID and Weather

A project of this size didn’t come without its challenges. Ongoing supply chain issues and rising costs after Covid-19 created some hurdles, while heavy rain during construction added to the challenges our team had to navigate at the commencement of the project.

The 18,000 square metres facility has impressive specifications

The facility will be used by many of the leading companies in New Zealand, and will make use of logistics capabilities on land allowing larger quantities of imported and exported goods to flow through New Zealand and the Asia-Pacific region.

  • Almost 30,000 pallets can be stored in cold rooms and freezers, so that the product quality is optimal. Blast freezers meet international food standards, freezing products in less than 24 hours.

  • Direct rail connections to the ports of Tauranga and Auckland, and access to State Highway 1. The facility can load 40ft containers (29 tonnes) on train wagons.

  • Maersk aims for a Green star 6-star rating (the highest possible for a cold store in New Zealand), using solar panels, CO2-based cooling (instead of ammonia), rainwater harvesting, and electric vehicle charging stations.

“Right from the initial discussions and quote phase all the way through to delivery and post-production, Lee ensured a seamless process and ultimately made us look good to our client.”
